Due to the fact that Celtic ethnicity was an oral expression society that does not use character.
The manuscript of Manx Gaelic had never been printed until the early 18th century and furthermore until , and a dictionary translating Manx Gaelic into English There was also no existence until the 19th century.

Except for a small number of stories and poetry made in the 16th century and some religious literature, there seems to be few literatures before the 20th century in Isle of Man.
The Manx language was inherited a culture which is conveyed by oral tradition, including the tale and the legend.
In Isle of Man that has a historical background of oral expression society and culture, all cultures including ancient stories and legends have been told by oral tradition.
Regarding the point that has historical background of private oral tradition, from the historical viewpoint, from the social structure of the time it is said that Isle of Man and Japan have very similar points.

“Man” which is the name of the Island is also spelled with “Mann”, it seems that it come from the name of the god of Celtic myth, “Manannan (Manannan mac Lir)”.
Manannan is a son of the sea god “Llyr” which is called Manawydan, and it is also a conjurer who is called Manannan mac Lir.
Is Isle of Man closely related to sorcery?

In addition, it is said that the Celtic people used a Runic character in one story. And also from the fact that “Man” which is the name of the Island is derived from the name of the Celtic mythology’s god, Manannan, it is a understandable story that they used Runic characters that are deeply related to sorcery.

Long time ago, it was believed that the Runic character was familiar to sorcery because there was magical power in the Ogham character.
So, considering that Manannan was a son of sea god Llyr called Manawydan and he was also conjurer called Manannan mac Lir, it can be more convinced that Isle of Man is related to sorcery.

However, attention to the word “Mann”, another theory also emerges. It is said that Celtic people used Ogham characters, so we cannot deny the possibility here.
Ogham characters are deeply related to trees, there is also the theory that all alphabets correspond to trees and plants.

In the case of Ogham, “M” corresponds to the tree “Grape” (grape=Muin=vuim), response month is August, the 10th moon as a symbol, and the meaning is “prediction”. So it will be satisfied that this island was called “grape floating in the sea”.
Also, if the meaning of M is prophecy, it seems that the Manannan mac Lir theory is reinforced more.

In any case, nobody knows the truth since it is an ancient story.
But it is no doubt that it is a story that is drawn up with dreams and romances.
